Remarks on the Lagrangian representation of bi-Hamiltonian equations

چکیده
The Lagrangian representation of multi-Hamiltonian PDEs has been introduced by Y. Nutku and one of us (MVP). In this paper we focus on systems which are (at least) bi-Hamiltonian by a pair A1, A2, where A1 is a hydrodynamic-type Hamiltonian operator. We prove that finding the Lagrangian representation is equivalent to finding a generalized vector field τ such that A2 = LτA1. We use this result in order to find the Lagrangian representation when A2 is a homogeneous third-order Hamiltonian operator, although the method that we use can be applied to any other homogeneous Hamiltonian operator. As an example we provide the Lagrangian representation of a WDVV hydrodynamic-type system in 3 components. MSC: 37K05, 37K10, 37K20, 37K25.

Bi–Hamiltonian Structures and Solitons
Methods in Riemann–Finsler geometry are applied to investigate bi–Hamiltonian structures and related mKdV hierarchies of soliton equations derived geometrically from regular Lagrangians and flows of non–stretching curves in tangent bundles. The total space geometry and nonholonomic flows of curves are defined by Lagrangian semisprays inducing canonical nonlinear connections (N–connections), Sas...
متن کاملSome remarks on Lagrangian and Poisson reduction for field theories
Given a Hamiltonian system on a fiber bundle, the Poisson covariant formulation of the Hamilton equations is described. When the fiber bundle is aG-principal bundle and the Hamiltonian density is G-invariant, the reduction of this formulation is studied thus obtaining the analog of the Lie-Poisson reduction for field theories. The relation of this reduction with the Lagrangian reduction and the...
متن کاملRemarks on the GNS Representation and the Geometry of Quantum States
It is shown how to introduce a geometric description of the algebraic approach to the non-relativistic quantum mechanics. It turns out that the GNS representation provides not only symplectic but also Hermitian realization of a ‘quantum Poisson algebra’. We discuss alternative Hamiltonian structures emerging out of different GNS representations which provide a natural setting for quantum bi-Ham...
متن کاملIntegrable and non-integrable equations with peakons
We consider a one-parameter family of non-evolutionary partial differential equations which includes the integrable Camassa-Holm equation and a new integrable equation first isolated by Degasperis and Procesi. A Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulation is presented for the whole family of equations, and we discuss how this fits into a bi-Hamiltonian framework in the integrable cases. The Hamilton...

A discrete version of Lagrangian reduction is developed in the context of discrete time Lagrangian systems on G×G, where G is a Lie group. We consider the case when the Lagrange function is invariant with respect to the action of an isotropy subgroup of a fixed element in the representation space of G. In this context the reduction of the discrete Euler–Lagrange equations is shown to lead to th...
